Hi and welcome to Discussions,
sadly Microsoft hasn't (yet?) brought Access to the Macs.
Even the 2011 edition of their Office for Mac does not contain Access.
So, your only chance is indeed to install a Windows environment on your Mac.
The most compatible way is to use Apples BootCamp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ which sadly has the need to reboot your Mac in order to run Windows but otherwise is like running Windows on any other given PC.
Second best would be the useage of a Virtualization app like Parallels, VMWare Fusion or the free VirtualBox.
All these three allow you to run Windows alongside OSX without the need to reboot.
As for compatibility they are fully capable of running MS-Access.
